Local Destinations: Ozamiz

Formerly known as Misamis, a deviation of the Subano word for “coconut”, the province is steeping with history and Spanish influence. Be sure to take lots of pictures in Ozamiz‘’s Fort Santiago, built by the Spaniards in 1756. Also worth visiting is the Image of the Blessed Virgin of the Cotta of Misamis, said to have miraculous powers such as intercessions of the Virgin during Muslim raids and the growth of the Image on the wall. Ozamiz has lush, green environments and other attractions such as the Malindang army facility-turned-golf course, the Botanical Garden and Heroes Park, all of which are sure to please the outdoors type of traveler.
