Airasia Baggage Allowance, Policies And Fees

AirAsia Cabin Baggage Policy

A single bag and one personal item, such as a handbag or briefcase, per passenger, is permitted. Assistive devices and outerwear are not regarded as personal belongings.

All carry-on luggage must fit in the overhead compartment or under the seat in front of the passenger. These are the criteria for the different allowable cabin baggage:

AirAsia Cabin Baggage Allowance for Passengers

One Carry-on or hand-carried luggage

  • should not exceed 56 cm x 36 cm x 23 cm (length x width x height)
  • be able to fit in the aircraft cabin’s overhead storage space

Only one of the following: one laptop bag or handbag or small bag

  • should not exceed 40 cm X 30 cm X 10 cm (length x width x height)
  • should fit under the seat in front of the passenger

Both pieces of luggage must weigh no more than 7 kilograms combined.

Note:

  • This policy is effective since 7 July 2020.
  • Bulkhead seats do not have under-seat storage during take-off and landing.
  • Multiple items that are strapped, wrapped or tied together will not be counted as one piece of cabin baggage.

AirAsia Cabin Baggage Allowance for Infants and Children

Infants below the age of two years are not entitled to any cabin baggage allowance. The same cabin baggage allowance will be provided to children aged 2 years and above.

A stroller, buggy, or pram can be carried free of charge as checked luggage if it is being used by a child or an infant. Otherwise, a baggage allowance must be purchased.

As cabin baggage, pock it baby strollers or foldable baby strollers are permitted as long as they fit within our cabin luggage allowance.

Purchases Made at the Airport

All goods bought at the airport will count toward your cabin baggage allowance.

The following goods are also permitted: Only items packed in a Security Tamper-Evident Bag (STEB) that is sealed (until your final destination) and accompanied with proof of purchase are exempt from the cabin baggage allowance provided they stay within the duty-free limit for your destination country.

Note: Regulations regarding the carriage of duty-free items may vary depending on each airport operator’s policies. If unsure, please check with your local duty-free store personnel.

AirAsia Checked Baggage Allowance and Policy

AirAsia is a budget airline and for domestic flights, there is no complimentary checked bag allowance.

However, every passenger is permitted to bring as many bags as wished if such fit within the passenger’s purchased or complimentary checked-in baggage allowance.

However, if the passenger bought more than 30 kg of baggage allowance, he should be aware that each item checked in must fulfill the following criteria:

  • Maximum dimensions: 119 cm x 119 cm x 81 cm (length x height x width) or a total of 319 cm for total linear dimensions
  • Maximum weight is 32 kilograms per piece

Purchasing or Upgrading your AirAsia checked baggage allowance

There are two options for upgrading your current checked baggage capacity.

1. Online Prebooking

If you book online, you may pre-book in advance or after your reservation is confirmed.

You can increase or decrease your checked baggage allowance up to four hours before the scheduled departure time by purchasing it / upgrading it through My Bookings, AirAsia Mobile App, or AVA. To find out how to do so, go here.

 Take note, it is generally cheapest to pre-purchase your baggage ahead of time. And it is non-refundable once the luggage weight has been purchased.

2. Before the flight at the airport

If you didn’t pre-book your baggage, you can still purchase at the airport (Airport Baggage) on the day of departure but will be limited only to 15kg checked baggage allowance per guest / per way and will be charged according to the prevailing airport baggage fee.

You may still purchase at the airport on the day of departure if you didn’t pre-book your baggage (Airport Baggage), but you will be restricted to a maximum of 15kg checked luggage per guest / each way and charged in accordance with the existing airport baggage fee.

On a per kilogram basis, any additional weight will be charged at the applicable excess baggage rate.

AirAsia Baggage Policy: Items that can be checked in for Free

These are the items that AirAsia Philippines accept as can be checked in for free:

  • Baby strollers/buggies/prams, 
  • Wheelchairs and mobility devices, 
  • Crutches and walking frames.

As checked baggage, the items above may be checked-in for free if they are being utilized and/or by a baby, child, elderly person with a disability, or wheelchair-user traveling. Otherwise, a pre-booked checked allowance is required.

Other things, such as strollers, pushchairs/prams, and other items with a battery, maybe taken aboard the plane but have to be examined by security personnel at the boarding gate. AirAsia Excess Baggage Policy

If the passenger pre-booked his baggage online but had to check in with heavier luggage, he will be charged an excess baggage fee for each additional kilogram, which is determined by the airport from which he departs. It can only be paid in cash at the airport on the day of departure.

The excess baggage charge will be applied per person, per kilogram, and per way in the event of a connecting flight.

If the passenger has more baggage than the limit, AirAsia recommends that he arrives at the airport at least two (2) hours before the scheduled departure time.

  2. Prices may vary depending on your travel period, but will not at any one time be higher than those reflected in the table below.
  3. Sports equipment includes Golf, Surfboard, Bicycle, Skis/Snowboard, Cricket, and Diving gear. Any other sporting equipment not stated here is accepted as part of your checked baggage allowance. Please note that travelers are now entitled to take 1 x 15kg surfboard free of charge under the Free Surfboard Policy.
  4. Per Sector: certain fees are chargeable for each stop of your journey.
